In this month’s newsletter:
- This month we released our latest analysis, reported in the Daily Mail. On current trends, just over half of ‘Gen Z’ women and men in their 20s will ever marry. This despite survey evidence that most young adults want to marry.
- We also had a look at a proposed ban on cousin marriage. ‘Consanguinity’ predominantly involves the Pakistani community. Although linked to a doubling of congenital anomalies in children, its hard to see how a ban could be policed. I’ve outlined some of the research here.
- For some, Christmas might seem like a piece of cake. For others, it is more like a cold turkey. If you have a couple of minutes read my ‘seven secrets of a highly successful Christmas‘.
- And, yes, next year I will finally finish my PhD. I hope my findings will help encourage the case for marriage. Falling marriage rates have a huge impact on family outcomes. Yet the subject of marriage is bizarrely absent from public policy and debate. I just have the small matter of a ‘viva’ to negotiate!
